Baby Shower Gifts to Make Custom
Baby Wipes Box
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This
wipes box is one of the cutest baby shower gifts to make for
the stylish baby or Mama on your gift list.
|
Awell
turned out tot should never be without a custom baby wipes box on hand.
Mommy can at least pretend that changing a diaper is fun and stylish. This homemade baby shower gift can be made to match baby's signature colors, using easy to find supplies. I used scrapbook paper, ribbon, and a stick on fabric tag. I've seen similar custom wipes boxes sold in boutiques for around $25! This is one of the most affordable baby shower gifts to make...craft it with me for only a few dollars. Travel size wipes containers are available in most grocery stores, drug stores, and even dollar stores. This tutorial requires a plain (non-pop-up) lid, which is a bit hard to find right now. If you can't find a flat lid, you may want to create a fabric baby wipes container. |
A custom wipes box would be a great centerpiece for one of these creative and affordable baby gift basket ideas. Or browse around the crafts section for more baby shower gifts to make. |

Step
1 Lay your paper face down, and trace the shape of your box. Cut it out slightly larger than your outline, as you want a little of the paper to come down over the sides. (See the photo after Step 3) Check to see if your first cutout fits, and then cut another one using the first as your pattern. |

Step
3 Quickly cover the back of one of your papers with swirls of Quick Grip Glue. Press it into place and position. Smooth the paper on top. Now go around the outside edge and run a bead of glue just under the edge of paper, pressing it down as you go. Repeat with the other piece of paper, so both sides of the box are covered. |

See how the paper overlaps the top just slightly? The ribbon will cover the edge and give us a nice neat finish. Now we're ready to waterproof our paper.

Step
5 Spread on a layer of Decoupage Glue. |

I used Mod Podge Gloss Luster to give the finished box a wipe clean, shiny surface.

Repeat on the other side, and then allow to dry overnight. Coat it one more time if desired, and allow to dry.

Step 6 Starting at the back of the box, begin to glue ribbon trim in place along the edge with Quick Grip glue. It dries quickly, so as soon as you run a short bead of glue, press the ribbon in place. Do this all the way around, covering up the overlapping edge of paper. Be sure to keep the bottom edge of the ribbon lined up with the edge of the lid so that it won't interfere with the box closing when you're done. |

Here is a closer look at a corner. Just stretch the ribbon around so that it wraps it as neatly as possible.

When you come back to your starting point, neatly trim ribbon to fit in flush and glue down. I cut mine at an angle.

The
top ribbon is in place. Now repeat with the bottom ribbon.

Step 7 Decorate with the trim of your choice. The Quick Grip Glue will easily hold on an iron on letter. . .baby's last initial would be perfect, as it could be used by future little ones as well. You did it! Isn't this one of the cutest and easiest baby shower gifts to make? |
